Lions of the sky

Lions of the sky

The Lions of the Sky sculpture is the largest work Gabor M Szoke has ever produced. It is located inside the new National Hungarian Bank building, which is to house the Stock Exchange, and the lion motif itself was developed as the embodiment of the guardian of the treasury. When first entering the huge glass roofed hall, Gabor saw an allegorical scene unfolding in front of him –nine lions descending from a peek of sky emerging from the clouds. Nine plays an important role at Szoke’s art, as this number is strongly associated magic and power. For all the single digit numbers, nine is the most profound. Composed of three trinities, nine represents the principles of the sacred Triad taken to their utmost expression. Nine has been and s till is considered thrice sacred and represents perfection, balance, order, in effect, the supreme superlative. These nice lions are levitating in the air like in a dream, surrounded by clouds made of thousands of money like coins.
